Your future role
Alstom UK is embarking on a major growth journey, one that’s set to transform the UK rail industry for years to come. As part of this expansion, we’re strengthening our Supply Chain team and looking for passionate individuals who want to be part of something game-changing. Based within our overhaul programmes, this is your opportunity to join an ambitious team at the forefront of innovation in rail. We’re looking for a Material Planner to take charge of the end-to-end flow of materials, ensuring that everything needed for production is in the right place, at the right time, and in the right condition.
We’ll look to you to:
- Plan and schedule all material transactions to minimize inventory while ensuring a controlled release of materials to meet production needs.
- Generate and maintain the Product Bill of Materials (PBOM), Line of Balance (LOB), and Action Trackers.
- Create detailed purchasing and validation plans.
- Identify kitting requirements and develop/manage storage media for all consumable materials at the point of use.
- Place orders and coordinate supplier startup meetings, managing any resulting actions.
- Interface with other departments regarding emerging material issues and project risks, generating and managing agreed action plans.
- Plan material delivery requirements with the core overhaul team to develop delivery kits, ensuring required materials are available at all production stages.
- Design material footprints to ensure all delivered kitted material is decanted and stored safely and securely.
- Expedite material kits delivery in compliance with the overhaul schedule.
- Maintain stock levels with kit suppliers to ensure constant kit availability, providing action plans for material shortages when necessary.
- Set up and manage contingency spare requirements during overhauls.
- Attend weekly and daily production meetings as needed.
- Ensure inventory is maintained within business guidelines during overhauls through scheduled deliveries.
- Manage safety-critical materials in compliance with Approved Code of Practice 1003 (ACOP 1003) through new part purchases or overhauls, including Customer-Supplier Relationship (CSR) management and First Article Inspection (FAI) procedures.
- Generate Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and manage them effectively.
- Ensure core material remains uncompromised throughout planned overhauls (float management).
- Actively participate as a representative of the Supply Chain within top-level special projects management.
- Provide Supply Chain support for other identified activities and requirements.
All about you
We value passion and attitude over experience. That’s why we don’t expect you to have every single skill. Instead, we’ve listed some that we think will help you succeed and grow in this role:
Essential:
- Proven experience in a material planning, supply chain, or production planning role, ideally within a manufacturing environment.
- Good standard of education at GCSE level in English and Maths or equivalent.
