On 10th April 2013, Women in Rail officially launched at One Whitehall Place in London.
The launch event reflected the main objectives of Women in Rail: provide networking opportunities and support for all women in the rail industry, highlight the role women play in shaping the future of rail, promote rail as an attractive place to work and develop strategies for engaging young people to consider a career in the sector.
Guests heard presentations which focused on supporting and encouraging women in the rail sector.
Speakers included distinguished industry experts, such as the Honourable Anna Walker, Chair of the Office of Rail Regulation, Sir David Rowlands, former Permanent Secretary to the Department for Transport, Heidi Mottram OBE, Chief Executive Officer of Northumbrian Water and former Managing Director at Northern Rail and Dyan Crowther, Route Director at Network Rail.
The event was attended by 200 guests representatives of a cross section of the rail sector.
