On 7th September, Women in Rail hosted a drinks reception to celebrate the winners, the nominees and all the men and women who joined us in our search for the 20 most inspirational women in the UK railway industry 2016.

The event was opened by Adeline Ginn, General Counsel at Angel Trains and founder of Women in Rail, and Bernadette Kelly, Director General, Rail Executive, Department for Transport.

The evening was huge success with over 150 men and women from the UK railway sector attending.

The survey was the first of its kind, its purpose being to create a shortlist of women who have made an outstanding contribution to the UK rail sector by positively influencing others over the course of their railway career. Men and women across the UK rail industry took part, nominating a woman who they found inspiring, whose infectious energy and attitude had inspired them or others to join our sector, or a woman who had gone the extra mile and whose achievements, drive and determination in the face of adversity had changed lives for the better.

194 nominations were received and the 20 winners were announced in June this year.
