Overview

RSSB are now recruiting for a Research Support Analyst to  join a team of analysts in the Research directorate at RSSB. The Research directorate runs the research programme, generating new knowledge for the industry and supporting the dissemination and implementation of that knowledge. The principal responsibility of the analyst team is to assess ideas for new research projects. The analysts develop the project’s case for research, ensuring that the project will support the strategic needs of the rail industry and will represent good return on the investment. Following completion of projects, the analyst team is responsible for undertaking a review of the project, as well as facilitating the monitoring of industry implementation of the findings.

This is a permanent role based at our Offices in Fenchurch Avenue with hybrid working. Responsibilities

What you’ll do: 

You will stay abreast of new research within the rail industry and beyond, critically assessing information to support the delivery against a broad scope of potential activities, which are expected to include:

  • Developing research: Working with industry stakeholders and supported by RSSB Professional and Technical Leads, you will help scope new research projects to be carried out covering all aspects of the rail sector.
  • Establishing business cases: You will help investigate and describe the expected impact of new research on GB rail, and assess the value of it.
  • Providing research delivery support: You will be involved in monitoring and contributing to the delivery of a diverse range of research projects, ranging from engineering to rail operations.
  • Communicating research findings: You will help prepare impactful communication material and present to industry groups and stakeholders research remits, research findings, expected impacts and benefits from research, and implementation routes to realise these benefits.
  • Post Project Review (PPR) of project benefits: Working with the Professional Leads, other analysts, and the Director and Deputy Director of Research, you will deliver high quality PPRs ensuring sound logic and benefits analysis is taken and effectively communicated.
  • Implementation planning: You will support the RSSB Professional and Technical in identifying and realising industry take up of research findings research findings.
  • Knowledge searches: You will utilise analytical and business writing skills to answer questions from members of the rail industry through desk-based research, where you will need to collate information from public sources and generate insight to answer to pressing questions.
  • Programme support: Providing support to the organisation, coordination and reporting of the research programme to industry and other key stakeholders.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Hold a degree in an engineering discipline, mathematics or economics (or an equivalent qualification or experience).
  • Effective qualitive and quantitative analytical skills.
  • Have a proactive and innovative approach to solving problems.
  • Communicate effectively and share thoughts and ideas through methods appropriate to the audience.
  • Adapt and respond effectively when embracing new opportunities, change and in navigating uncertainty.

  • Knowledge, understanding and interest in public transport, and rail in particular.
  • Knowledge, understanding and interest in the management and delivery of research type activities.
