Women in Rail East Midlands’ launch event took place on 29 June at the Derby Conference Centre. Attending the event were likeminded professionals from across the rail sector including manufacturers, suppliers, operators, consultancies,  and professional service providers.

Catherine Appleby from the Department for International Trade also attended. “I was pleasantly surprised and impressed at the level of interest and participation at the first Women in Rail East Midlands event.  This means that the East Midlands is already well passed the starting line for role models in this regard and looking ahead.”

Sponsored by Bombardier Transportation and ATA Recruitment, the free networking event included complimentary refreshments, and the chance to connect with fellow rail colleagues and indulge in a glass of wine. Guest speakers included Noel Travers, Managing director from Unipart Rail and Public Speaker, Ruth Sacks.

Kristin Thorslund is the Chair of Women in Rail East Midlands. “The event was a fantastic example of the energy created when like-minded women come together, with a passion for reinforcing their role in the future of the railway industry.  I am really looking forward to developing and growing Women in Rail.”
