Matthew Hoggard MBE is one of the most successful international cricketers to have played for England. He played for – and captained – Leicestershire County Cricket Club where, after leaving his home county of Yorkshire at the end of the 2009 season, he had a very successful period. He was a vital member of the inspirational England side that won the epic 2005 Ashes series and has been a model of consistency throughout his test and ODI career, representing his country on 93 occasions.

Since retiring from all forms of the game in 2013, Matthew has become a much sought after public speaker and media figure as well as maintaining his interest in the game of cricket with his coaching.

Matthew’s latest venture is Hoggy’s Grill, a purpose built BBQ school and shop situated on the banks of Rutland Water. Here he aims to show the people of the UK just how versatile the humble BBQ can be and teach the many ways to produce incredible, restaurant standard food on the grill.

During lockdown Hoggy’s Grill have hosted virtual dinner parties and group cook-alongs, injecting fun and online social contact during this difficult time.

Light Relief in Lockdown
The lockdowns of the last few months have affected everyone – regardless of age or occupation – but for parents, and especially key workers within and outside of the rail industry, the current restrictions – along with the added stress of home schooling – will result in 2020 and the first quarter of 2021 being remembered as particularly challenging times with little to no respite.

In addition to Kid’s Hour – an initiative aimed at giving children of rail workers a break from homeschooling and a weekly activity to look forward to – Women in Rail is running  a series of talks “An Evening with…’, specially aimed at bringing a little light relief to parents in these dark times and create fun lasting memories which can be held onto for years to come.
