Sally Boazman is well known to listeners of BBC Radio 2 for her travel reports and regular chats on the Steve Wright, Simon Mayo and Jeremy Vine shows where she is affectionately known as ‘Sally Traffic’. She can now be heard at the weekends with Graham Norton, Johnnie Walker, Dermot O’Leary, Zoe Ball and others.

Sally has become a national cult figure, and is even known as the patron saint of road users! Her first documentary for the channel – ‘In Search of a British Route 66’ was well received and she has more recently presented programmes on country music and Peggy Seger. She has presented a documentary for BBC television ‘The Road to Nowhere’ celebrating the 25th anniversary of the M25.

She has been voted one of the most attractive female voices on UK radio in a Radio Times poll, coming in at number 4, beating most of the top personalities in UK radio and topping the poll on BBC Radio 2.

Sally has worked as an actress, in current affairs at LWT, The Automobile Association, working at AA Roadwatch and broadcasting traffic news to many stations, followed by BFBS and the BBC World Service. BBC Greater London Radio then beckoned and she became their chief travel reporter, writing and delivering scripts for both radio and Newsroom South East.

Having then moved to BBC Radio 2 in 1998 she took up the role as the station’s first designated travel reporter, and quickly became the butt of insults and innuendo from her fellow presenters. However, her shoulders are broad, and she continues to enjoy what she considers a very special job. She was awarded an ‘Outstanding Achievement Award’ on behalf of all the UK Truckers for her traffic news on BBC Radio 2.

Sally’s talents do not stop at broadcasting. She is an accomplished writer as well as an outstanding singer and she performs a one woman show. “The Sally Traffic Handbook” – full of facts, fun and frolics was published in 2007. She is a popular guest at the Truckfest events which are held throughout the country, meeting in person the truckers who listen to her everyday and ring in to her hotline number.

Her popularity means she is in demand for voice overs (Land Rover, Cadbury and even Status Quo) and corporate events (The Road Haulage Association, The Highways Agency, Scania, RAC and Rolls Royce).

Light Relief in Lockdown
The lockdowns of the last few months have affected everyone – regardless of age or occupation – but for parents, and especially key workers within and outside of the rail industry, the current restrictions – along with the added stress of home schooling – will result in 2020 and the first quarter of 2021 being remembered as particularly challenging times with little to no respite.

In addition to Kid’s Hour – an initiative aimed at giving children of rail workers a break from homeschooling and a weekly activity to look forward to – Women in Rail is running  a series of talks “An Evening with…’, specially aimed at bringing a little light relief to parents in these dark times and create fun lasting memories which can be held onto for years to come.
