Women in Rail Book Club

Following a successful and engaging first Women in Rail Book Club discussion, we’re delighted to invite members to join us for our second session on the 10th of August from 18:00-19:00.

Led by Clare Caddick, Driver, Chair of LNER’s women’s network, EMPOWER, and Women in Rail South Committee member, the Book Club provides a welcoming space for members to connect, share perspectives and explore thought-provoking books centred around women’s experiences, voices and stories.

The book club is open to all Women in Rail members, and will feature bi-monthly, virtual sessions via Teams that will set out to encourage, engage, and empower its readers.

There will be no stringent expectations. We appreciate that people have jobs, responsibilities and lives! Ideally, everyone will read the books allocated to the sessions. But if you are unable to do so, you will still be welcome to join the sessions and participate in the conversations.

Book lovers, allies and advocates are all welcome to join our next Women in Rail Book Club discussion. This session, we’ll be reading

‘The Names’ by Florence Knapp

A gripping “sliding doors” novel that explores how a single, seemingly simple decision can dramatically alter the course of an entire family’s destiny over 35 years. The book dives into the painful ripple effects of domestic abuse and how a woman’s voice and choices can be suppressed.

This will be an online event using Teams. An email with the link and joining instructions will be sent out to those who have registered closer to the event.

If anyone has any queries, please don’t hesitate to reach out to Clare.
