Women in Rail Book Club
Clare Caddick, Driver, Chair of LNER’s women’s network, EMPOWER, and Women in Rail South Committee member is starting a book club!
This year is The National Year of Reading; a campaign generated to encourage people to rediscover the joy of reading. As an avid reader, taking a particular interest in crime fiction and feminist literature, Clare has been looking for a way to combine her two passions, reading and gender equity, and it is hoping that this is it.
The book club is open to all Women in Rail members, and will feature bi-monthly, virtual sessions via Teams that will set out to encourage, engage, and empower its readers. The overarching theme will be ‘women’; as well as Feminist Literature, works focusing on gender equity and women’s experiences, there will also be good reads simply written by interesting and inspiring women thrown into the mix too.
There will be no stringent expectations. We appreciate that people have jobs, responsibilities and lives! Ideally, everyone will read the books allocated to the sessions. But if you are unable to do so, yu will still be welcome to join the sessions and participate in the conversations.
So, for you book lovers, allies, and advocators, please use the link below to sign up. The first book is one we hope a lot of people have already read, that we’re certain will make for an interesting discussion. It is ‘Invisible Women’ by Caroline Criado Perez.
If anyone has any queries, please don’t hesitate to reach out to Clare.
