Yorkshire – Summer Social Event

Women from across the rail industry took the opportunity to catch the train from Leeds or York last Thursday evening for a summer social event.  We met between the two cities at Knaresborough where The Mitre Inn is ideally located right next to the station.

A fantastic cross-section of the industry was represented from geotechnics, materials engineering, and ecology, to communications, commercial and marketing. There was also a wide range of experience represented, from recent Graduate to Director.

Over a glass of something cold and a bite to eat we enjoyed a lively discussion on the industry we are all part of, including the good, and the more challenging, aspects of being a woman in rail – there were some really interesting stories shared.

What came across strongly was the need for us to keep supporting each other, and that great connections can be made when we have the chance to step away from the day job. A relaxed evening out with like-minded people and fellow rail industry professionals was an excellent tonic filled with good chat and laughs.

We’re very much looking forward to the next one.
