WR – latest news
Women in Rail have had a really busy and positive week this week during National Apprenticeship Week and International Women’s Day.
The Rail Professional Magazine have issued our article on National Apprenticeship Week in their March edition where we highlight opportunities in the rail industry. This will be available to read on our website from next week.
We have thrown our full support behind International Women’s Day (IWD) which fell on the 8th March and aims to celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievement of women. We sat on ‘The Rail Women’ panel event at St Pancreas Station along with five other leading women from across the rail sector to look at how we tackle the fact that women make up less than a fifth of the UK rail workforce.
Our WR Yorkshire group held an event “Attracting the Next Generation: Women and Apprenticeships In celebration of International Women’s Day 2018” in partnership with National College for High Speed Rail and DB Cargo UK to look at the skills gap in the industry.
We featured in a couple of short clips filmed by the Department for Transport for IWD which highlighted what Women in Rail does and how we are supporting women in the industry. You can watch the clips by clicking on the useful link.
And last, but definitely not least, we had some lovely coverage in The Business Desk for the appointment of Claire Burrows, the new Chair of Women in Rail West Midlands group. To read the article click on the useful link.
