Establishing Great British Railways (GBR) provides us with the opportunity to deliver a better railway across Britain for our customers and taxpayers. To deliver this transformational change we will need to make the best use of our collective skills, expertise and talent.
Over the last year, integrated railways have brought track and train teams closer together, testing how a unified national railway can work in practice as we prepare for GBR. We are already seeing the benefits these can provide for customers and taxpayers.
Alongside this, we are now beginning the process for bringing together LNER and Network Rail East Coast Route and we are inviting expressions of interest for the role of IMD, East Coast. The East Coast Main Line is one of Britain’s most important rail corridors, carrying more than 20 million passengers each year and supporting regions that generates around 47 per cent of the UK’s economic output, and providing a crucial transport link between England and Scotland.

These updates are further significant steps towards GBR and showcase the opportunities we have to use the knowledge and talent we have across the railway, as we come together as one system. Together, we have the opportunity to build a simpler, stronger and more unified railway for the people and communities we serve.
