Role Overview:

We are looking for a strong, hands on leader to take ownership of Production and Performance, delivering safe, reliable, and customer focused fleet operations. Duties include:

  • Lead Production and Performance activities to deliver 24/7 fleet availability.
  • Ensure contractual targets are consistently achieved across safety, reliability, availability, and train presentation.
  • Own operational delivery for fleet performance, acting as the senior accountable manager.
  • Champion a strong customer and end user focus in all decision making.
  • Lead QHSE delivery in collaboration with the central QHSE function.
  • Ensure locomotives are provided as required to meet business and customer demand.
  • Maintain the highest standards of product safety, people safety, and environmental compliance.
  • Embed industry, engineering, and production best practice across operations.
  • Provide visible, decisive leadership grounded in strong production delivery expertise.

Other Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure delivery against contractual KPIs, Stadler requirements, and industry standards.
  • Lead the Performance Department and ensure effective integration with Production, Planning, and Engineering.
  • Own and embed the FRACAS process to drive root cause analysis, corrective actions, and reliability growth.
  • Drive MTIN improvement through identification of systemic issues and prioritisation of actions.
  • Use data driven insights to optimise maintenance activities and production planning.
  • Act as the senior contract interface for performance, availability, and reliability matters.
  • Govern the performance management regime, ensuring targets are achieved and shortfalls addressed.
  • Embed a zero harm culture, ensuring strong focus on safety, quality, and compliance.
  • Coach and develop teams, support succession planning, deputise for the Head of Location as required, and undertake other reasonable duties aligned with the role.

Experience, Skills And Qualifications:

  • HNC level education (or higher) in a relevant discipline, or equivalent proven experience.
  • Extensive experience in rolling stock maintenance and modern rail vehicle support.
  • Strong background within large, complex engineering and transport environments.
  • Proven experience in production, through life support, and operational delivery.
  • Ability to understand and interpret complex technical designs, reports, and investigations.
  • Demonstrated strength in risk management, safety leadership, and regulatory compliance.
  • Minimum five years’ experience managing, coaching, and developing multi skilled teams.
  • Strong communication and influencing skills across all organisational levels.
  • Proven experience in Lean, Kaizen, 5S, root cause analysis, and modern production techniques.
  • High level of IT competence, including Microsoft applications, with a passion for continuous improvement and people development.
