About the Role

The successful candidate will coordinate the response to all infrastructure and operational incidents, including the recovery of normal train services and the management of relevant information and communication systems.

They will develop and maintain strong working relationships with Network Rail colleagues, train operators, contractors and other key industry partners to ensure an effective response to incidents and minimise the impact of disruption.

Salary: Controller.2 – £70,594

Key Accountabilities

The successful candidate will:

1. Support the delivery of train services during both normal operation and disruptive events, ensuring the best possible outcome for customers and the wider rail industry.
2. Coordinate the mobilisation and activities of maintenance teams, operations staff, train operators, contractors, emergency services and other key partners in response to incidents, ensuring safe and timely recovery.
3. Disseminate accurate, concise and timely information to train operators, Network Rail colleagues, passengers and other industry stakeholders in accordance with company standards and statutory requirements.
4. Maintain a daily log of significant operational safety, infrastructure and performance events using relevant systems and procedures.
5. Identify and classify infrastructure failures and manage the input of information into FMS and other relevant systems.
6. Coordinate short-notice changes to possession and isolation plans and oversee the implementation of temporary and emergency speed restrictions.
7. Manage information generated through remote condition monitoring systems, coordinating the response of appropriate teams and recording actions taken.
8. Support the Route Control Manager and Train Running Controller in the development of emergency plans and resources for major incidents.
9. Assist with Very Short-Term Planning (VSTP) train movements.
10. Support the Route Control Manager in establishing Gold Command and Incident Room operations during periods of significant disruption.

Essential Criteria

Candidates should be able to demonstrate:

• Knowledge and practical experience of railway operating procedures, rules and regulations.
• Experience within a control environment, area operations or infrastructure-based role.
• Understanding of fault management procedures.
• Strong geographical and organisational knowledge of the relevant ICC-controlled area.
• Experience using Microsoft Office and relevant control systems, including CCF, TMIS, P2v2, TRUST, TRUST DA, TOPS, FMS, Nexus Alpha and Alpha Page, or similar communications systems.
• Working knowledge of the NRN system and its correct operation.
• Knowledge of Train Operating Companies operating within the route.
• Strong teamworking skills and the ability to make objective decisions.
• The ability to influence others and perform effectively under pressure.
• An understanding of the commercial and business environment within Network Rail and Train Operating Companies.

Desirable Criteria

• Geographical knowledge of adjoining routes.
