About the Role

The successful candidate will support the management of incidents, accidents and emergencies affecting the operational railway, working closely with colleagues across Network Rail, customer organisations and other industry partners. They will also coordinate processes relating to incoming infrastructure faults and support the efficient recovery of train services during operational disruption.

Salary: Controller 4, £66,113 per annum

Experience and Skills

Key Accountabilities

The successful candidate will:

• Support the work of the Incident Controller during both normal train running and disruptive events to deliver the optimum service for customers and the wider rail industry.
• Manage the faulting and repair of infrastructure assets, including identification, coding, prioritisation, action and resolution.
• Coordinate, under the direction of the Incident Controller, the activities of maintenance teams, operations staff, train operators, contractors and emergency services to achieve safe and timely recovery from incidents.
• Coordinate the provision of Emergency Speed Restrictions (ESRs), urgent unplanned possession and isolation requests, and manage alterations to planned possessions.
• Liaise with on-site teams to monitor possessions, including the movement and provision of engineering trains, on-track machines and plant where issues arise.
• Monitor information generated through remote condition monitoring systems, prioritise responses and coordinate the mobilisation of appropriate staff.
• Carry out fault management system activities and other specified checking procedures.
• Disseminate accurate, concise and timely incident information in accordance with company standards and statutory requirements.
• Maintain records of safety, infrastructure and performance events as directed by the Incident Controller and in line with company procedures.
• Produce reports and supporting data to agreed specifications and coordinate the provision of control information within defined timescales.

Essential Criteria

Candidates should be able to demonstrate:

• An appreciation of signalling, track and electrification disciplines.
• Experience within a fault management, maintenance, operations or rail control environment.
• Knowledge and practical experience of railway operating procedures, rules and regulations.
• Experience using Microsoft Office and control-specific software such as FMS, MIMS, TRUST, TRUST DA and communication systems.
• Knowledge of Train Operating Companies within the route.
• Strong teamwork skills and the ability to make objective decisions.
• The ability to influence others and perform effectively under pressure.

Desirable Criteria

• Good geographical knowledge of the relevant route.
• Geographical knowledge of adjoining routes.
• Working knowledge of the NRN system and its correct use.
• Understanding of the commercial and business environment within Network Rail and Train Operating Companies.
