Stadler Rail is seeking an individual to lead and coordinate the successful transition of new fleet introductions from manufacturer to operator, ensuring the delivery of a safe, reliable and high-performing railway service.
The role acts as a key technical interface between Stadler Rail, operating companies and supply chain partners, driving reliability growth and performance improvement through structured investigations, data analysis and the implementation of engineering solutions.
Using a project-focused approach, the role supports the management of priorities across multiple stakeholders and contributes to the achievement of contractual KPIs, including reliability, availability, KTIN and technical incident targets. The position also supports continuous improvement throughout fleet mobilisation and the early operational phases.
Key Responsibilities
- Support colleague development through coaching and mentoring activities.
- Assist with the onboarding of new starters, providing on-the-job training, enhanced training and associated assessments.
- Lead the development and maintenance of Power BI and other analytical tools to monitor fleet reliability trends, defect patterns and contractual performance obligations, including component-level analysis.
- Develop and maintain performance dashboards and reports for internal and customer stakeholders, providing clear technical insights and recommendations for improvement.
- Act as the technical liaison between Stadler Rail engineering teams, customer engineering teams and suppliers/OEMs, ensuring effective communication and stakeholder coordination.
- Manage technical queries and warranty claims, providing timely resolutions while maintaining strong working relationships.
- Lead structured 8D investigations into significant failures, repeat defects and safety-related incidents using recognised root cause analysis methodologies including 5 Whys, FMEA and Fault Tree Analysis.
- Ensure investigations are closed with effective corrective and preventive actions and monitor the long-term effectiveness of implemented solutions.
- Monitor fleet performance against contractual KPIs, including KTIN, availability and technical incident targets.
- Identify recurring failures, emerging risks and systemic issues through data analysis and contribute to reliability improvement programmes.
- Support the achievement of reliability and availability targets under maintenance and service agreements.
- Assist in the optimisation of maintenance strategies, including maintenance intervals and maintenance documentation.
- Support the implementation and continuous development of condition-based maintenance approaches.
- Maintain accurate data records within Stadler Rail management systems, including SRMS and other business systems.
- Ensure maintenance documentation, defect records, work orders and technical reports are completed accurately and in a timely manner.
- Maintain personal competencies and ensure all training and competency requirements remain current.
- Promote engineering, production and industry best practice and support the development and implementation of company standards and procedures.
- Support the embedding of a zero-harm culture across operational activities.
- Identify and, where authorised, implement actions to prevent product non-conformities, safety incidents, compliance breaches and QHSE risks.
- Comply with safety and quality management systems, undertaking inspections, audits, safety tours and condition assessments as required.
- Support the completion of risk assessments and contribute to the maintenance of departmental risk registers.
- Demonstrate and promote Stadler Rail’s values and challenge inappropriate behaviours where necessary.
- Work proactively and independently to resolve issues within operational railway environments.
- Ensure compliance with RSSB, ORR and RAIB requirements and industry standards.
- Support Quality Management System reviews and approvals, including work instructions and risk assessments.
- Undertake any other reasonable duties required to support operational and business objectives.
Skills and Qualifications
Stadler Rail is seeking candidates with:
- Qualifications or equivalent experience within a rail, depot or engineering environment.
- Formal education to NVQ Level 4 (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline.
- Electrical, software/network or mechanical engineering qualifications, or equivalent time-served experience.
- Strong knowledge of rolling stock systems and modern EMU fleets.
- Proven experience leading 8D investigations and structured root cause analysis activities.
- Advanced Power BI skills, including dashboard development and performance trend analysis.
- Strong Excel, reporting and data analysis capabilities.
- Understanding of reliability engineering principles, including KTIN and failure trend analysis.
- Experience working within OEM support environments and fleet service contracts.
- The ability to diagnose complex, multi-system technical issues.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively across teams.
- Experience working in changing operational environments and supporting organisational change.
- Confidence communicating with technical and non-technical stakeholders, including customers, suppliers and engineering teams.
- Experience managing technical discussions within contractual and service delivery environments.
- Demonstrated ability to lead complex stakeholder discussions involving internal teams and external partners.
