Stadler Rail is looking to recruit a System Technician to join the Production team at its Canton depot, reporting to the Technical Team Manager. Working on the Class 231 and Class 756 fleets, the successful candidate will provide detailed technical support to the business, ensuring accurate and up-to-date information on fleet status is available at all times. The role involves fault finding, liaising with key internal and external stakeholders, and carrying out quality assurance secondary checks on colleagues’ work. Through the application of expert technical knowledge, the System Technician will help ensure that contractual service levels are consistently achieved.
Key Responsibilities
The System Technician is responsible for carrying out detailed fault diagnosis and identifying the repairs required to safely and efficiently return units to service. They provide technical support across Stadler Rail, particularly in relation to condition-monitoring systems and manually monitored train interfaces. A key aspect of the role is undertaking secondary checks on colleagues’ work in accordance with the four-eyes principle, while also responding to technical queries from both colleagues and clients.
The post holder contributes directly to operational performance by providing technical feedback and support to the RAMS/Performance Engineer, depot production teams, and Line of Route Technicians as required.
The System Technician is expected to identify risks within their area of responsibility, assess potential impacts, and implement or recommend appropriate mitigation measures, ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation, industry requirements, and Stadler Rail’s internal safety standards.
The role includes reviewing and summarising faults, failures, and corrective actions undertaken by depot teams, as well as producing high-quality reports relating to in-service defects at both system and component level. The post holder is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely data entry into the Maintenance Management System (SRMS or equivalent), alongside the preparation of technical and non-technical reports. They are also expected to influence and support managers and colleagues in the continuous improvement of systems, processes, and ways of working across Stadler Rail.
Health, safety, and environmental responsibilities form a core part of the role. The System Technician maintains a clean and organised working environment and ensures that environmentally sensitive substances are handled and disposed of correctly. In consultation with the Production Manager, the post holder determines the most effective sequencing of tasks and applies their knowledge and experience to make effective use of available equipment, work instructions, and maintenance schedules.
The System Technician takes ownership of their own professional development, maintaining and enhancing both technical and non-technical skills. They also support the development of others through mentoring, coaching, and quality assurance activities. Flexibility is essential, and the role may require the post holder to undertake additional duties appropriate to the position in order to support the operational needs of Stadler Rail.
